Weather on the East Coast might have kept the headliner clinician from arriving but over 100 umpires from 7 states who attend school in Sioux Falls claimed clinic was a success.
USA Softball Director of Umpires Kevin Ryan was not able to make flight connections to Sioux Falls because of the storms that were going through the east but the clinic was in very good hands.
Clinicians were Jimmy Derrick, National Staff from Atlanta, Ga.; Steve Riswold, National Staff from Sioux Falls, SD; retired National Staff member Wild Bill Silves from Mt. Vernon, Wa.; Tom Keller, Minnesota UIC; Al Waldvogel, Wisconsin UIC.
Playing a big part of the clinic were the Area UIC SD Staff of Rich Skorheim of Huron, Leroy Zafft of Sioux Falls, Chuck Buchheim of Chester, Brett Distel of Box Elder, Justin Amundson of Rapid City, Kelly Johnson of Watertown, Dennis Thompson of Mitchell, John Marquardt of Yankton, & Gerry Bills of Sioux Falls.
Tom "Duck" Suedmeier of Aberdeen was also in attendance with the new USA Softball Umpire gear.
A big thank you to local umpire coordinator Jerry Micke of Sioux Falls for doing a great job of organizing the 2 day event. Carol Pipgras for getting the snacks and water.
Even the players got involved as Hannah Wagner- pitcher & Erin Murphy- catcher came out and threw so that the umpires could get some live pitching training. The girls play for Harrisburg Tigers Softball Club. Thanks for coming out and making South Dakota umpires the best in the land.
Also at the clinic Justin Amundson of Rapid City and Leland Murren of Sioux Falls were awarded their Elite Status Awards. These one of the highest honors that USA Softball Umpire can receive. Congrats guys!.
2018 clinic will be back in Rapid City in the spring.
